Moon Sweepers crashing

If Moon Sweepers crashes, install patch 1.0.4 before you change drivers or Windows settings. That build repairs a damaged save on the next launch, and it fixes falling through the Moon, capsule-packing stalls, and freezes when you swap tools near a crowd of robots. A launch-week matrix crash is not named in the notes.

Crashes in the 1.0.4 notes include falling through the Moon and freezing near a crowd of robots. The orange dot is a marker, not an error code.

Order to try

  1. 1
Install patch 1.0.4 on every machine in the session

Steam should offer it. Saves from 1.0.4 do not open in older builds, so a mixed crew can look like a crash or a failed join.

    Official, patch notes
  2. 2
Launch once and read any restore message

The game checks saves after a crash and repairs a damaged file from its backups. If it restored something, it says so.

    Official, 1.0.4
  3. 3
On AMD, remove a DirectX 12 launch option

Windows now defaults to DirectX 11 to prevent AMD GPU crashes. The flag -force-d3d12 turns that protection off.

    Official, 1.0.4
  4. 4
Verify the game files in Steam

Library, Moon Sweepers, Properties, Installed Files, Verify. This is ordinary Steam practice. The patch notes do not mention it.

    General practice
  5. 5
Update the GPU driver, then try a clean overlay

A current AMD or NVIDIA driver, and turning off the Steam overlay, are common crash steps. They are not listed in the 1.0.4 notes. Try them only after the patch.

Questions

Does 1.0.4 say the upgrade-matrix crash is fixed?
No. Launch-week players reported closes while opening the upgrade matrix and while idle. The 1.0.4 notes list other crashes and a save-repair pass. They do not name the matrix. Update anyway, then treat a repeat as unfixed.
Will a crash eat the world?
1.0.4 checks saves on the next start and repairs damaged ones from the automatic backups. It also tells you when a world had to be restored at load.
