Moon Sweepers save file location and backup

Patch 1.0.4 keeps up to five full backups of each save slot, outside Steam Cloud, at AppData\LocalLow\DragDropGames\MoonSweepers\Backups. The game writes one a minute into a session and then every 30 minutes, and it restores a damaged save when the world loads. Copy that folder only while the game is closed.

Patch 1.0.4 keeps up to five backups per save slot, outside Steam Cloud. The stack is that count, not a screenshot of the folder.

The path the patch prints

Close the game, then open this folder. The username is the Windows account, not your Steam name.

Each save slot keeps up to five full world backups. The first is taken a minute into the session, then every 30 minutes. If a save or part of it is damaged, 1.0.4 restores it from those backups when the world loads and tells you. After a crash, the next startup checks the files and repairs damaged ones.

  1. 1
    Quit to the desktop

1.0.4 also made quitting faster, so you should not be stuck on “Saving your progress...” the way large bases were before the patch. Wait until the process is gone.

Official behavior, plus ordinary file safety
  2. 2
Copy the Backups folder somewhere that is not that disk's only copy

A USB stick or another drive. Five slots rotate, so an older good world will age out.

    Reading of the five-slot rule
  3. 3
Let the game restore before you overwrite anything

Launch 1.0.4 and read the message. Manual swapping is for when the automatic restore is not the world you wanted.

    Official repair

1.0.3 had already started repairing damaged saves on load and refusing to replace a good save with a bad write. 1.0.4 is the one that adds the five timed backups and the faster save on a heavily cleaned base.

Questions

Are backups in Steam Cloud?
No. The notes say they are stored outside Steam Cloud. Steam Cloud itself is a store feature, so the live cloud save is a separate copy.
Whose file is the co-op world?
The notes talk about the host's upgrade matrix, the host's crew list, and bans that stick to that save. Treat the host's machine as the copy of record. A guest PC is not the world.
